Officials with the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo and the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center are both pleased with this year's event that wrapped up Sunday. This year's Stock Show had a very good beginning and a very good ending, according to officials.
Black Hills Fox Reporter Al Van Zee has the story. The general manager of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Brian Maliske, says this year's Stock Show is now the second best-attended Stock Show ever. The final numbers haven't been computed yet, but Maliske says this year's attendance appears to be right behind last year's, which was the best ever. Brian Maliske says, "Both weekends exceeded last year. In fact, the last Saturday set an all-time record for the busiest day we've ever had. So it was a really good Stock Show. It was a really good run. But it's going to come down as number two not number one." Now Maliske's crews are busy with the process of making the Civic Center shine once again. Tons of dirt were hauled out Monday, in addition to tons of refuse. Maliske says more than 6000 filters in the building's ventilation system will be replaced in the coming days. Meanwhile, Stock Show General Manager Ron Jeffries says a new innovation, tried out for the first time at this year's Stock Show, has yielded some very good results. That new innovation was the relocation of several Stock Show events to the Central States Fairgrounds Kjerstad Events Center. The ranch rodeo and the sheepdog trials were among about a half dozen events that took place there for the first time. Jeffries says the move has relieved the crowd and parking pressures that had been increasing in recent years at the Civic Center. Ron Jeffries says, "It does circulate those people throughout Rapid City. And that's part of the big importance of this. The economic impact is tremendous. And will allow all those people that come in for the Stock Show to be able to circulate throughout the community, and it's good for the entire community. " The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo has emerged in recent years as one of the biggest such events on the Northern Plains. Al Van Zee, Black Hills Fox News. |
