CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ Wyoming lawmakers are moving to ban people from bringing guns and other deadly weapons into courtrooms.
The House of Representatives gave initial approval to the bill Wednesday. It must pass two more votes before it can move to the Senate. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that violators would face up to 10 years in prison as well as a fine up to $10,000 under House Bill 216. It's sponsored by Republican Rep. Kermit Brown of Laramie.
Wyoming law currently bars people from bringing weapons to jails, prisons, the state hospital and the Wyoming Boys School and the Wyoming Girls School. Last year, an Albany County judge barred guns in the county courthouse, which contains some county offices. County commissioners opposed the move, saying judges only have that authority within their own courtrooms.
