We're at about the halfway point of this year's Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, and one of the traditional events that takes place every year on Wednesday night is the Stockman's Banquet and Ball. Awards are given to individuals and businesses that have demonstrated excellence in their agriculture field.

The Stockman's Ball may be the biggest event on the night-side of things this Wednesday evening at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo, but one longtime event took center stage Wednesday morning and afternoon. It's the Bucking Horse and Bull Sale, and it brings in buyers, sellers and even riders from all corners of the country.

Coordinators say buyers are looking for speed, strength and the overall athleticism of the animals, while riders say the sale gives them a chance to hone their skills during the off-season and even earn a little cash while doing so.

Bronc rider Shadow Jensen says, "The entry fees aren't real high. They add a little money so it's a good deal. You get to come and get on a few horses and maybe win a little money and I'd say that they pay $2,000 to win it, so it's worth coming and getting on a few."

Coordinators say they expected about 60 bucking horses and around 40 bulls to change hands after the sale.
