Volunteers are spreading out across Rapid City, checking shelters, motels, and on the streets. They say it's important to get an accurate count because if they can show there is a need, they have the possibility of getting more funding for permanent housing here. But organizers say getting an accurate count is a challenging job. Anita Deranleau says, "It really is because it's a very fluid thing. People can be living in temporary housing for a short period of time or a long period of time. They move from place to place quite often. Of course, the weather affects where they're living. So yes, it's a very challenging thing to get an accurate count." The homeless count continues tonight and run through noon tomorrow. |
