Big Blizzard Race raises funds for Big Brothers and Big Sisters

It was a downtown scavenger hunt straight out of a reality TV show as more than 80 competitors swept the streets of Rapid City to help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills.

It's called the Big Blizzard Race and it pitted teams of four against the clock to complete a series of unique challenges at different locations throughout downtown Rapid City. Event coordinators say, while some participants may be a little more competitive than others none of them really knew what to expect from the course.

BBBS Development Director Jodi Oliver says, "Some of the teams will be competing a 'sunrise salute at a location downtown. They'll be exploring an arts center downtown, and they're going to be roping in celebration of the Stock Show. It's going to look different for every team. Some challenges will take certain teams longer than others. So, it just depends how long it takes them to complete their tasks." Big Brothers Big Sisters says their goal for Saturday's fundraiser sat at about $5,000  generated through both sponsorships and registration fees.
