Governor Dennis Daugaard said once again Friday that he wants to hear more from local school boards and administrators, as well as local law enforcement officials regarding House Bill 10-87. He made the comments just minutes after news came down that the House Education Committee had narrowly approved a bill that would allow school districts to arm teachers and other personnel with firearms on school properties.
The House Education Committee voted 8-7 Friday morning to send the bill to the House floor for debate. Opponents of the bill say it would increase the danger of accidental shootings if students somehow get their hands on the guns.
