Horse show gallops through Rapid City

The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo doesn't officially get going until Friday, but events are already going on. The horse shows started Tuesday at the Pennington County Events Center.

The Pfizer Winter Classic American Quarter Horse Association Horse Show was running again today at the Pennington County Events Center, along with the NRCHA Show.

This year's Stock Show finds more events than ever held at the Events Center rather than the Civic Center.

Ron Jeffries says, "We moved both the Ranch rodeo and the sheepdog trials down to the James Kjerstad Event Center this year. It was because we didn't have a contract for the Civic Center arena. We're going to make the best of everything. We know we've got a great shot coming. We've got more space for the competitors, which means more opportunity for them to compete at a little faster pace, if you will. And that should also hold true for the sheepdog trials."

Jeffries says seating will be an issue for Tuesday's Ranch Rodeo, since they had bigger crowds at the Civic Center than they can accommodate in the Events Center.
