Ellwein earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Education degrees from South Dakota State University and began his military career in 1979 by enlisting as a euphonium player in the 147th Army Band. He has since been deployed twice to Iraq, and he said leading Monday's parade would potentially be his last official mission in the Army. -Zach Nugent |
