Sioux Falls native leads band in Inaugural Parade

South Dakotans helped with more than just the food for Monday's inauguration. Fred Ellwein, a Sioux Falls native, led the U.S. Army Old Fife and Drum Corps as it marched down Pennsylvania Avenue ahead of President Barack Obama's motorcade.

Ellwein earned his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Education degrees from South Dakota State University and began his military career in 1979 by enlisting as a euphonium player in the 147th Army Band. He has since been deployed twice to Iraq, and he said leading Monday's parade would potentially be his last official mission in the Army.
