Sheriff's Office still seeking homes for 23 horses

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office says 23 of the 69 neglected horses impounded recently are still in the care of Pennington County. The horses were impounded on-site east of Rapid City after the Animal Industry Board filed a complaint about the animals back in December.

The Sheriff's Office put out a call to anyone who had the means to board horses and help them find homes for the animals. The Sheriff's Office said in a statement today that it hopes to find homes for all of the animals by the end of the week.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the horses were found suffering from a lack of feed and from overall malnourishment. The caretakers of the horses, Donald and Terry Harwood, owned some of the animals, while the rest belonged to other owners.
