When the snow is on the ground is a good time for emergency responders to brush up on their winter search and rescue skills. This weekend, the Pennington County Search and Rescue organization is holding its annual winter campout at Rouxbaix Lake. The campout will be used as a opportunity for the members to hone their winter rescue skills, and team organizational procedures. The members are sleeping in the snow, cooking outdoors and practicing ways to stay warm in the cold.
Jason Dannenbring says, "We got out every winter and run our equipment to get experience with it and make sure that after the summertime setting, that we've got all the maintenance issues probably taken care of." For the approximately twenty people involved the winter campout at Rouxbaix Lake, in the central Black Hills, lasts until Monday. Al Van Zee |
