A downtown Rapid City gun shop played host to grassroots demonstrators this afternoon calling for support of 'Gun Appreciation Day.' Saturday's demonstration comes in the wake of 23 presidential executive actions aimed at curbing the problem of gun violence across the country. The call for action for today's demonstrators came by way of social media websites and encouragement through www.Gunappreciationday.com but coordinators say today's gathering is one of pride rather than anger. Jeb Bordewyk says, "Everybody here is happy today. We're proud to be Americans and we're proud to have a second amendment and proud to have the ability to gather here like we are on a wonderful day. Everybody's tickled. There's a lot of upbeat folks here and we're just happy to be able to be here." Similar gatherings were held in cities across the country and even on the steps of the South Dakota capitol building. Brendyn Medina |
