Lion count nears 2 dozen
Tuesday, 15 January 2013 12:22
The mountain lion hunting season has been somewhat sporadic so far, with a total of 23 cats being taken down. According to a hunt summary on the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department website, the last lion killed was Monday in Custer County.

It was a 103-pound female, estimated to be between two and three years old.

Most hunters have reported taking down a lion over the weekend, however some numbers have still been trickling in during the week. This year's season is scheduled to run through the end of March but will end sooner if the quota of 100 lions total or 70 females is reached. Of the 23 killed so far, 12 have been female.
