Destination Rapid City presents sign plan

Destination Rapid City is at it again, looking to make the community more inviting to people who visit. Destination Rapid City President Dan Senftner made a presentation to the Public Works Committee Tuesday on Wayfinding Signs and what they would add to the community.

Senftner says Wayfinding is used in cities throughout the country and would play a huge role when visitors come to Rapid City.

Senftner says, "We are a population of almost 70,000 and if you take a look around there's a lot of small cities around us of 800, 2,000, 3,000 people. Rapid City is a large community to a lot of those folks visiting us, so when they come into Rapid City we want them to feel comfortable with where they're going, what they're doing, how to get there, where to park. These are essential to every community especially one of our size."

Senftner says they plan to put up 32 signs and hope to do so by Memorial Day weekend. The project is privately funded by Destination Rapid City and will cost between $120,000 and $140,000.
