Legislature convenes next Tuesday

The 88th session of the South Dakota State Legislature kicks off Tuesday in Pierre.  Governor Dennis Daugaard laid out his proposed four billion dollar budget to the legislature in December.  What final form that budget will take should once again be one of the big challenges of the session.

Sen. Larry Rhoden says, "Because we've taken some appropriate steps in year's past to deal with the budget crisis, we positioned ourselves to be in a lot better shape and have the luxury of being a little more flexible in how we deal with those situations."   Sen. Jim Bradford says, "In the actual budget, I think it's going to scare people because we do have a little excess money. And they're afraid that if we start doing some things then the economy won't stay. I think the governor has more faith in the economy than a lot of legislators."   You can hear more about what's coming up in the upcoming legislative session this Sunday night at 9:30 on Focus right here on Black Hills FOX.
