The Rapid City Police Department is reminding citizens of why jaywalking is a dangerous habit for pedestrians.   A car-pedestrian accident late Thursday afternoon on Lacrosse Street in Rapid City resulted in one man being taken to the hospital.

He was also charged with jaywalking.  Police say there is a very good reason pedestrian crosswalks are almost always placed at intersections on city streets.   Mark Eisenbraun says, "That generally where the traffic the drivers are paying attention for pedestrians to cross. And oftentimes you'll have situations in a multi-lane road where some cars will stop and some won't and that creates an even more hazardous situation."  Police say 32-year-old Thomas Cassella of Rapid City was struck by a vehicle at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was cited for jaywalking.  The driver of the vehicle was not cited.
