Pennington County Weed and Pest addressed the county commission Tuesday with an update on the battle against the mountain pine beetle and the announcement of a generous donation.  Nieman Timber Company donated $50,000 to Pennington County Weed and Pest last week.

The money will go towards the ongoing effort to create a buffer between Forest Service land and private land.  Pennington County Weed and Pest Director Scott Guffey says, "Just recently we found out that Nieman Timber Company has generously donated $50,000 to help with our projects, so that should get us about 20,000 trees treated, cut and chunked to minimize the fight for next year."  Weed and Pest currently has 17 certified cutters under contract.  The Forest Service has inspected completed projects, and Guffey says they are pleased with the results.
