RCFD: Resident's actions caused fatal fire

Rapid City fire officials say the fatal fire last Tuesday may have been caused by the actions of one of the residents. But fire officials say they don't believe those actions to be malicious in nature.

That statement came Monday in an official press release from the Rapid City Fire Department on the blaze last Tuesday night that killed four people.

Department spokesman Lt. Brent Long says the investigation into the fire at 2114 6th Avenue will continue.

Long says, "There will be more information to come out as the investigation does continue. We're working together with law enforcement and other fire investigators. We've got the state fire investigator who is helping out with this. So it will be a joint collaboration on the findings."

On the night of Nov. 27, one of the female occupants of the residence, along with three of her grandsons perished in the fire. A coroner's investigation revealed that the four died of smoke inhalation.
