South Dakota Congresswoman Kristi Noem says although she does not support tax hikes, something needs to be done in order for a compromise to be reached and the fiscal cliff to be averted. Noem says, "I'm hearing that both sides are committed to finding a solution that will avert it. Any solution that should address the short-term challenges of the fiscal cliff, as well as our long-term debt and entitlement challenges. I have been clear that I oppose increased tax rates, but I believe revenue can be brought in through comprehensive tax reform." Meetings continued Thursday in Washington with discussions focusing on the upcoming cliff. GOP aides say Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner presented an offer calling for $1.6 trillion in new tax revenue over the coming decade. -Zach Nugent |
