Rescue Mission serves Thanksgiving meal

With the Cornerstone Rescue Mission's kitchen closed for renovations, the annual Thanksgiving feast this year was held at The Parkway Restaurant, where the mission estimates 300 to 350 people were fed turkey with all the fixin's.

The mission provided the chef, who has been preparing for the event all week, concocting such treats as fresh, homemade mashed potatoes and gravy.   Desserts were donated by local grocery stores, and Fountain Springs Community Church purchased most of the food for the meal.   Lead Pastor David Kinnan says it is a cost they factor into their annual budget.   Kinnan says, "This is just what we should do. You know, there's not a person in this city that should go without a Thanksgiving meal and especially if they can't afford it or just don't have access to it. And so we'll go home, and we'll have our Thanksgiving meals later, but we're just glad that everyone in the city had an opportunity to have a meal today."    More than 100 volunteers donated their time to make Thanksgiving possible for all of the guests.
