Just Tuesday, police responded to an incident at Youth and Family Services where a running vehicle was stolen and another incident where a 14-year-old was caught going through an unlocked van. With many partaking in holiday shopping this week, police say unlocked cars full of new purchases are ideal targets. And authorities say there's only so much they can do when it comes to these crimes. Sgt. John Olson says, "But even when we solve them, a lot of times we can't even find all the property, whether it was given to someone or sold to someone or whatever it was. So a lot of times we're not getting all of our property back." Police say your best line of defense is to simply lock your doors and put any valuables out of sight.
