Main Street Square officials say even with temperatures peaking into the high 50's, the rink's cooling system is designed to keep the ice solid even on warm days. The concept for the ice arena was a part of Main Street Square's original design plans, and several events this winter will feature ice performances. Main Street Square Executive Director Megan Karbowski says, "We do a variety of things on the ice. We are primarily open skate, and will be all open skate during the holidays. So from November to December you can come down anytime while we're open and skate with your family, select times we'll close the rink is if we have a figure skating performance or any other ice demonstration that we may do, and that's usually alongside an event." Last winter the rink at Main Street Square welcomed about 20,000 skaters. This season, the rink is anticipated to stay open until February 23. -Cheryl Lee |
