Rapid City Police say a series of pursuits Tuesday and Wednesday left two people under arrest. The first short pursuit started just after midnight on Tuesday, but the gold Cavalier got away. The second pursuit started after a traffic stop just before midnight Tuesday night, and the car got away again. The car was spotted again just after midnight at East St. Joe and St. Charles. Police say that chase ended with the car crashing into a fence at the Central States Fairgrounds. The driver, 20–year old Kylie Backus of Rapid City, was charged with eluding police and aggravated eluding. Police say they determined a passenger, a 16–year old girl, was the driver in the earlier pursuits. She faces a host of charges of her own.
