Air Force says tanker crews misjudged conditions leading to fatal crash

The U.S. Air Force is releasing its findings into a July crash near Edgemont that killed four members of North Carolina's Air National Guard. The report indicates the crew misjudged conditions and flew into a wind burst while assisting in firefighting efforts.

The accident happened July 1st as crews battled the White Draw Fire in the Southern Hills. The accident investigation report released Wednesday said the C-130 air tanker crashed because the North Carolina crew made an ``inadequate assessment'' of conditions and flew into a microburst which is a narrow wind gust that rushes downward out of a thunderstorm.

Four of the six crew members died in that crash.
