CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ U.S. Sen. John Barrasso says he's grateful that Wyoming voters have elected to keep him in office.
The Wyoming Republican won his first, full six-year Senate term in Tuesday's election. Barrasso was appointed in 2007 after Sen. Craig Thomas died in office. He was elected in 2008 to finish Thomas' term. Barrasso said he intends to focus on jobs, the economy and reducing the national debut in his coming term. He said he looks forward to working with Republican Sen. Mike Enzi, the state's senior senator, and with Rep. Cynthia Lummis, who also beat her poorly-funded Democratic challenger Tuesday.
Barrasso raised $7.4 million, according to federal campaign reports. His Democratic challenger, Albany County Commissioner Tim Chesnut, said he spent only $1,200 on his campaign. Chestnut said people were receptive of his message but he said ``it's tough to beat the machine when people are spending millions of dollars to get elected.''
