Square sculpture decision coming soon

Rapid City's Main Street Square is soon to be home to a little more art! Thursday evening Destination Rapid City hosted its third community meeting to discuss the progress of the granite sculpture project at the downtown park.

From a pool of 88 artists a committee has narrowed it down to five prospects. Only one will be chosen to carve his or her vision into the square's 21 granite blocks. Officials say it may seem like a lengthy process, but they want to make sure they get it right.

CEO of Destination Rapid City Dan Senftner says, "There's a process in the arts world that you work with to make the right and the proper decision. So this committee of 10 will now go to the final selection process next week. It really has nothing to do with the funding or the financing or anything like that; it is truly the best person for the job or the best team."

The five finalists will give their last presentations next Wednesday, October 31st, and Senftner says a decision will be made by November 15th.
