It's not the years, it's the miles. That expression is synonymous with rodeo, and this weekend the top twelve from each category of rodeo events gathered in Rapid City for the 2012 South Dakota Rodeo Association's Finals.

After competing in 26 rodeos between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the top money earners traveled from every corner of the state to try and win a championship. The SDRA attracts contestants from a variety of youth organizations, high school and college rodeo, as well as senior contestants for the over-65 men's breakaway roping. Of course many professional rodeo contestants got their start at amateur rodeo associations like this and go on to have long and lucrative careers.

SDRA Executive Secretary Ann Sundermann says, "It's kind of a stepping stone, almost everybody that's gone on further has been at an SDRA rodeo or maybe rodeoed here through many seasons."

Champions were crowned Sunday afternoon, with the season high money winners receiving trophy saddles.
