Annual M-Hill Trek happens without a hitch
Friday, 12 October 2012 12:16
Hundreds of South Dakota School of Mines students and faculty gathered in Founders Park Friday afternoon to make their annual trek up M-Hill.  It's a tradition stretching back decades where students hike up to the giant M to give the landmark a fresh coat of whitewash.

School officials say it's a good way for underclassmen to bond with upperclassmen and M-Hill also provides a unique means of immortalizing each year's graduating class.SDSM&T Former Alumni President Jerry Brown says, "  Primarily, the graduating senior class sets a plaque with all the graduates of that year into concrete to form the S, the M, and the D. So, it's an annual tradition."   The hike to M-Hill is a part of the school's re-scheduled M-Week celebrations.  M-Week was rescheduled in the wake of the death of Mines President Dr. Robert Wharton last month.
