Holder faces up to life in prison

A 21-year old Rapid City man faces up to life in prison if he's convicted on a charge of second-degree rape; or rape by force.

Tracy Holder pleaded not guilty to second degree rape in Seventh Circuit Court,  along with an alternative charge of third-degree rape,  or rape of someone incapable of giving consent. The second degree rape charge carries a maximum 50-year penalty, but that could extend to life,  if the state can prove that Holder is a habitual offender. In arguing against Holder's request for a bond reduction, the state claimed the alleged June incident was a stranger rape. Judge Craig Pfeifle denied the bond reduction request.
