Black Hills Pow Wow filled with dancing and singing
Saturday, 06 October 2012 15:27

Dancing and singing filled the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena again Saturday for the Black Hills Pow Wow.  The centerpiece of the dancing, singing and socializing at the Arena today was the Grand Entry Saturday afternoon which featured the dancers doing their best routines clothed in their best costumes.

Also featured at this year's pow-wow was a new archery shoot at the Civic Center held in conjunction with the event, a fine arts avenue, and a wellness 3K and 5K run.  Also in connection with wellness, there were displays by local social service agencies offering programs to combat alcoholism and diabetes.

Kobi Ebert says, "We're trying to recruit members for our coalition, which is called the Urban American Indian Youth Coalition. We have a prevention program called Takiju Mini Tyape; "honoring the grandchildren." It's a drug and alcohol prevention program."

Also featured Saturday at the Black Hills Pow Wow were the hand game finals and the He Sapa Style Show.
