Badlands Bash in RC promotes National Park

It's all about promoting awareness of the many activities and educational opportunities the Badlands National Park has to offer.  The 'Badlands Bash' was held Sunday afternoon in downtown Rapid City featuring a handful of local music groups who volunteered their time to help promote the park.

Several tables were set up to showcase fossils discovered in the park and the Friends of the Badlands organization says the sky's the limit when it comes to the educational possibilities present at the Badlands.  Friends of the Badlands director Susan Ricci says, "They have astronomy programs where you can go and study the stars. They have artists in residence where people learn about doing artwork out in the Badlands and photography. They also have, for high school students, internship programs where students and even college students can get valuable volunteer experience as interns for the summer."  Ricci says all proceeds generated by Sunday's event will go to fund field trips to the Badlands for schools that otherwise would not be able to fund them.
