POW/MIA Recognition Day
Friday, 21 September 2012 13:05
South Dakotans took a moment Friday to honor those who've gone missing in action or have been prisoners of war while serving our country. At the request of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Governor Daugaard, Friday was POW MIA Recognition Day.

Service men and women from Ellsworth Air Force Base honored their comrades with a B-1 flyover and a special flag lowering ceremony. Although service members say there haven't been many POW's or MIA's in recent years during conflicts in the Middle East, we must still remember to honor those who've served and paid this price.

Col. Mark Weatherington says, "Approximately 150,000 Americans have been prisoners of war since World War II and there are still almost 88,000 folks that are considered missing in action."

Governor Daugaard says Friday was a day for all of us to remember that freedom is not free and comes with a price tag.
