RCPD: Medical problem to blame for accident
Wednesday, 12 September 2012 12:25
Police say a medical episode is responsible for a vehicle-pedestrian accident Wednesday in Rapid City. Both the driver and pedestrian were taken to the hospital after the accident happened shortly before 11 a.m.

The Rapid City Police Department says a white truck, driven by 72-year-old Charles Doherty of Rapid City, was headed eastbound on Omaha Street. The police department says the truck swerved off the road when Doherty had some kind of medical problem, jumped the curb, and pinned the pedestrian between the truck and a fence.

Police say the pedestrian, 46-year-old Joel Nikolas, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; Doherty was transported for serious injuries.

The police department estimates the total damage to both the truck and the fence at just under $7,000.
