Weinzirl leading Patriot charge

On Friday night the Douglas Patriots football team will go head to head with St. Thomas More just like they do every year. This year is a little bit different because unlike year's past the Patriots head into this weekend's game with a new found confidence. Cory Coppock tells us that the culture in Box Elder is changing and some of the credit for the metamorphosis goes to this week's athlete of the week Colin Weinzirl.  On Friday August 24th the Douglas Patriots beat the Lead-Deadwood Diggers 44-14. To most programs wins are but a small brush stroke in the bigger picture but at Douglas that win was so much more. You see, the Patriots hadn't won a game in two years, but thanks to the efforts of head coach Dan Maciejczak the program has steadily improved. Douglas is off to a 1-1 start and one of the players making some noise in Box Elder is Colin Weinzirl.  Colin hadn't really made his mark on the football field until this year and a big part of his improvement has been the effort he put in with his quarterback during the off season.  Colin admits that as a freshman and sophomore he wasn't really putting in the work necessary to be a difference maker on the filed but over the last two seasons that has changed.  After a slow beginning to his football career Colin has started to make some big plays for the Patriot offense. And if he continues to improve Douglas will most assuredly tally a few more wins in the win column. Congratulations to Colin Wienzril, this week's Black Hills Fox Powerade Athlete of the Week, I'm Cory Coppock.
