Evacuation orders have been lifted on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, after a fast–moving wildfire from Nebraska spread into South Dakota. The fire is part of the Region 23 Complex, with fires affecting areas such as Rushville, Chadron and Crawford in Nebraska and Pine Ridge in South Dakota. Officials say the complex has burned tens of thousands of acres. On Pine Ridge, crews say more than 25,000 acres have burned, with at least one home and a couple of outbuildings being destroyed. Although evacuation orders have been lifted in Pine Ridge, evacuations remain in effect for some Nebraska residents. Crews say the extreme heat, mixed with the dry and windy conditions have made containment a challenge. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs on the South Dakota side of the fire.
