Operations suspended at Ben French Power Plant
Friday, 31 August 2012 12:22
After more than 52 years of service, Black Hills Power is suspending operations at the Ben French Power Plant. In a statement released by the utility company, the suspension will impact seven local employees, however, service to customers shouldn't be affected. Black Hills Power says the plant was scheduled to be retired in 2014, as it would be too costly to comply with new emissions standards set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency.

Officials say the unit will still be available to generate electricity if needed, especially during hot summer months when energy usage comes to a peak.
