Daugaard says convention is 'energized'

Democrats get their turn in North Carolina next week, but this week is all about the Grand Old Party and the Republican National Convention in Florida.  Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R-SD) is among the thousands in attendance and describes the atmosphere as "very crowded" but also "energized and interesting."

The governor said on Wednesday that he was looking forward to hearing from South Dakota's own John Thune, who addresses the forum Wednesday night, as well as vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan.

Daugaard says one of the most significant issues facing America today is the federal budget. Ryan had proposed a budget earlier this year that would have made drastic changes to the way the government spends money.

Daugaard says, "What we need is people with courage to say, 'Here are some solutions. Here's what we have to do. Here's the breadth of the problem.' And say, 'I know this might hurt me in my ability to get re-elected, but I need to do what's necessary to protect our country from becoming another Greece or Spain."
