A benefit concert for a Rapid City resident stricken with cancer featured blues at the Dahl Arts Center Sunday evening. April Romey was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer that attacks the tissues of the face and neck. Sunday''s benefit called "April in August" featured the music of Jalan Crossland, Randy McAllister and Buddy Whittington, along with Hangman Hill.

The benefit concert was organized by friends of April Romey, and the Black Hills Blues Society.

Leah England says, "April has a rare form of cancer. It's a connective tissue cancer; normally in children. She contracted the disease with onset at age 27. So the rarity of that makes it very untreatable in this area. And so we're raising money for her and her family to get better treatment."

A silent art auction was also held including paintings from John Crane, Bill Fleming and Todd Rigione.
