Phase one of construction begins on Rapid City historic home

The job of restoring a bit of Rapid City's history continues on South Street.

That's where the group Historic Rapid City is working on the restoration of the McGillycuddy House, the home of former Rapid City mayor Doctor Valentine McGillycuddy. The group bought the 1888 home last year. Monday they started the first of four phases of the home's renovation.

Fred Thurston says, "We broke the project up into four phases so the different contractors who have time can assist us in getting portions of it built. So phase 1 is actually the south eight-Thurston says the whole project will probably cost between a half and three quarters of a million dollars and could take a couple of years to finish. He says the main point is not the house but the life of Doctor McGillycuddy.
