Public Works passes agreement for Memorial Park Promenade

A proposed corridor to increase pedestrian traffic between the Rapid City downtown area and the Civic Center took another step forward Tuesday. The Public Works Committee voted to approve an agreement between the city and Destination Rapid City for the Memorial Park Promenade project.

That agreement says Destination Rapid City would be responsible for footing the bill for construction of the promenade. The City's Parks Division says once complete, the promenade could link up to other city attractions.

RC Parks Division Manager Lon Van Deusen says, "At some point too, we'd also like to see a tie in to the Journey Museum, possibly even looking as far as the Swim Center, the ice facility and some of our recreation facilities too."

Destination Rapid City says funding for the project has already been secured, and they hope to break ground in October.
