City Council hashes out 2013 budget
Tuesday, 14 August 2012 12:19
The Rapid City Council continues to talk dollars and cents as part of the long process of working out the 2013 budget. The $136.7 million total budget is 1.3 % less than the 2012 budget. Alderwoman Charity Doyle says the mayor proposed the budget and now it's in the council's hands.

Doyle said the goal Monday night was to roll up their sleeves and hammer out the issues.

Doyle says, "A lot of issues on the table, you know. Council is getting used to a change in format of the budget, some really love it, some find it very lacking, so there's, you know, some internal argument whether that's the direction we want to go, but overall it's gone well so far."

Tuesday night's and Wednesday's meetings have been cancelled because Doyle said they dealt with everything last night.

She says they'll have the first reading of the budget, officially called the appropriations ordinance, at Monday's council meeting. She expects changes will be made before the second and final reading, which must be approved by October 1st.
