Tribe backing Traversie in complaint against hospital
Friday, 10 August 2012 12:44
The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is responding to comments made by South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley on allegations that a Native American man had the letters KKK carved into his abdomen during heart surgery at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Earlier this week Jackley said the state's investigation found the marks on Vern Traversie were the result of a skin reaction to medical grade tape.

In a letter, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe President Kevin Keckler says the tribe expresses outrage over what was apparently done to Traversie at the hospital. He says Jackley's conclusion that the scars are a side effect of surgery is wrong.

The letter calls for justice for the 69-year old Traversie and requests what it calls a "just investigation process."
