US Attorney aims to raise human trafficking awareness

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson is trying to raise awareness of human trafficking. He says they've had several cases in Sioux Falls over the past two years. Johnson says people need to be aware of the possibility, even here in South Dakota.

Brendan Johnson says, "And we know that it is happening here. What often happens is someone will come from outside our community and they will start recruiting people who are young or maybe they're recent immigrants to our community, people who are particularly vulnerable. And they will try to get them into a prostitution ring. And they'll really try to control their lives."

Johnson says most of the cases of human trafficking come to light when someone in the community senses something isn't right and speaks up.
