Exotic bikes line Sturgis Main Street

If you want to see exotic custom bikes, Sturgis is definitely the place to be this week. And Sturgis Main Street is ground zero for those bikes. Gary Vanderpol of Harrison, South Dakota brought his two creations to Sturgis.

One features the rear end of a '59 Cadillac and a '99 Northstar Cadillac engine. The other starts with a Yamaha Roadstar engine and has rear fenders that were reproduced off a World War Two trainer plane. And Gary just loves showing them off.

Vanderpol says, "I love it actually. The average crowd appreciates these things. It doesn't fall into the class of the real big money bikes, but for the average person they appreciate them. Actually, I ran an earth mover my whole life and had a lot of time to think. I had it in my head for probably ten years and finally got the time to build them a few years ago."

Gary says he worked on each of the bikes for about three months. He says he just wishes he would have built them when he was younger so he would be able to enjoy them more.
