Rally report and accident update
Monday, 06 August 2012 12:08

The City of Sturgis spends almost an entire year preparing for Rally Week and now it's upon us. With so many people in the Black Hills this week there are bound to be issues on the roads. Traffic was backed up Monday afternoon due to an accident out past Mount Rushmore. Highway 244 West was shut down, forcing park rangers to turn all traffic around. We'll have more information on that accident when it becomes available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says troopers have made 71 DUI arrests in the district, which basically consists of Western South Dakota, since Saturday morning. More than 1,100 warnings have been issued, and two fatal accidents have been reported.

Rapid City Regional Hospital says it's seen 15 Rally-related ER visits and Sturgis Regional Hospital has had 38 ER visits.
