Ellsworth cuts ribbon at new Deployment Center

Airmen deploying in and out of Ellsworth Air Force Base have an easier time of it these days. That's because of the base's new 55,000 square foot, almost $17 million Deployment Center. The facility was used for the first time for real last month, and they cut the ribbon on the center Thursday morning.

It combines all aspects of deployment under one roof.

Base commander Col. Mark Weatherington says, "And then just a very efficient process to take airmen and all their equipment and prepare for deployment, get it loaded onto an airplane and take it somewhere around the globe in a very efficient way that saves them time and gives them time back with their families and ensures they get to the mission area with everything they need."

Weatherington says this is the only facility like it in the Air Force.
