Thousands turn out for popular parade

It was difficult to even get into Deadwood Saturday morning as the Days of '76 Parade brought thousands to the Northern Hills town.

The Days of '76 Parade is one of the high points of the annual celebration in Deadwood. Saturday morning's promenade down Deadwood's Main Street included trucks, floats, barbershop choruses, stage coaches, freight wagons, beer wagons, chuck wagons, ore wagons, and meat wagons. It also included a lot of horses.

And if you went up and down the streets of Deadwood during the parade asking people what they liked most about it, this is what you'd hear. "What brings you up to the parade every year? What do you like about it? The horses. Anything else? No. It's awesome. What do you like about it? The horses." The Days of '76 Parade also featured such memorable Deadwood characters as Potato Creek Johnny, Seth Bullock, and Wild Bill Hickok or at least people who looked a lot like them.
