Shaw takes plea deal for June 5th incident

The court case of former Rapid City mayor Jim Shaw came to a close Friday afternoon with an agreement in Seventh Circuit Magistrate Court. Shaw was arrested June 5 when police say he kept going when they tried to stop him for speeding, finally jumped out of his car and refused to follow officer commands.

That officer drew his gun.

In Friday's agreement, Shaw pleaded guilty through his attorney to speeding and failure to yield for an emergency vehicle. A charge of obstructing police was dropped.

Shaw will have to write a statement to be approved by the court. Deputy State Attorney Tracey Decker says they want Shaw to acknowledge that he acted improperly that day. He will also have to pay a total of $245 in fines.

Shaw's attorney, Eric Pickar, says he's very pleased with the outcome.
