Picnic commemorates ADA anniversary

It's a day to talk about disabilities, the challenges the people with disabilities face, and to celebrate what those people are able to do. This year's Americans with Disabilities Act picnic was moved across town this year to the Game, Fish and Parks' Outdoor Campus in Rapid City.

But the idea is the same - raise awareness about the challenges that people with disabilities face.

Jeff Wangen with Western Resources for Disabled Independence says, "It's important for the community to be aware of the issues that folks with disabilities face. A lot of things we take for granted, going into a grocery store, convenience store, little things like that, some of these folks aren't able to do that. So to be able to put together a picnic like this for awareness for the ADA is really something that the community should get behind and doe get behind to bring awareness to those issues."

There is one big advantage to moving the picnic to the Outdoor Campus, and that's fishing. Everyone who wanted to got a chance to cast their line, and there were plenty of fish being reeled in Friday afternoon.
