Custer celebrates town's golden past
Friday, 27 July 2012 15:58
For 89 years, the town of Custer has been celebrating the discovery of gold in a creek just outside of town. They are holding a celebration again this year.

This weekend's Gold Discovery Days in Custer kicked off Friday with an arts and crafts show at the city park. Along with a quilt show and a flower show, the celebration features a host of activities, including a bed race and a hot air balloon rally.

Custer promoters say they are seeing a good crowd already gathering for the weekend fest. Robin Bagley says, "Gold Discovery Days is Custer's annual, local celebration. And, of course, it celebrates the discovery of gold in the Black Hills. This is our 89th annual Gold Discovery Days. And it's a three-day, fun-filled weekend."

The Gold Discovery Days celebration continues through Sunday evening with a laser light show at the Crazy Horse Memorial.
