Founders Park dedicates bridge

The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department calls it an important link in the city's parks system. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday morning to dedicate a recently completed bridge at Founders Park.

The $246,000 pedestrian and bike bridge is one of several enhancements at the park and Parks Department officials say the bridge is one of the first key pieces in creating a city-wide network between parks.

Lon Van Deusen of the RC Parks and Recreation Department says, "Of course, being in the center of town, it'll eventually be a link to M-Hill or the Hansen-Larson Memorial Park, as well as Skyline Drive. Hopefully, some day we'll have a connection between those two wilderness areas."

Other enhancements at Founders Park include landscaping and a new restroom and picnic shelter scheduled to be completed in October.
